Technically, these were supposed to be Buffalo Wings, the recipe taken from Yummy Magazine.
Buuuuut...
We didn't have all the spices listed and I chickened out on making it too spicy because my mom might kill me if she wouldn't be able to eat it; we ended up veering slightly away from the original recipe to work with what we have The result was a not-so-red batch of wings and they were more buttery than hot. But they already have that Buffalo taste and a nice zing, plus the wings were still very crunchy.
Also, the Cabbage Slaw (no particular recipe), was supposed to be good old coleslaw but my dad forgot to buy carrots.
Next time we'll make some really hot, really red, honest-to-goodness Buffalo Wings :D
For now, though, this makes a good family meal (especially if not everyone can handle spicy flavors)
| mmmmmm..wings.. |
- a dozen large chicken wings
- about a liter of water mixed with salt for the brine
- flour for dredging
- salt and pepper
- paprika
- dried thyme
- butter
- hot sauce (Tabasco)
for the Cabbage Slaw
- cabbage, shredded or sliced into strips
- raisins
- pineapple tidbits
- mayonnaise
- salt and pepper
Directions:
Mix all ingredients for the slaw and season with salt and pepper. Chill in the fridge.
Rinse chicken wings and immerse in the brine for 1 hour. Drain and pat dry.
Mix flour with the spices (you can add as much or as little as you want depending on your preferences) and place in a shallow container.
Coat wings in the flour and deep fry until done and golden brown.
In a separate pan, melt a little butter and add the hot sauce. Toss in the freshly fried wings until completely covered, then place in a serving tray.
If you want the option to make your wings spicier, melt some more butter and add more hot sauce, then drizzle this over the wings.
Serve with the Cabbage Slaw :)
